Nothing goes to waste!
Dartmoor is a wonderful place full of surprises round every corner and small businesses heve been using the natural resources of the area for many centuries. We like to think we are carrying on a fine tradition.
The majority of our products are made using either timber taken from Dartmoor hedgerows during normal maintenance or scrap material from other producers.
Our waste is then reduced even further as most of it goes to be used for animal bedding or burning in energy-efficient stoves.
Woodturning in Devon is alive and well!
In the current economic situation, we are all finding that the money doesn't go as far as it seemed to until very recently. Rural businesses in our area of West Devon have been badly hit, and we are facing up to the challenge in the old-fashioned way - HEAD ON!
We are proud to be carrying on a tradition of rural craft businesses that have helped to forge West Devon as we know it today. There have always been individuals who carried on their trade quietly in the small backwaters of Dartmoor, from blacksmiths to coopers, from carpenters to thatchers. Devon folk have always relied on their ability to turn their hand to all manner of work when needed, and we like to think that there's a bit of history helping us forward.
Oh. And we liked the picture because it cheers us up.

We will be at the historic Tavistock Pannier Market www.tavistockpanniermarket.co.uk every Tuesday to Friday until further notice. We will also be there on Saturdays whenever possible, including every second and fifth Saturday but check our events calendar every week for updates.The Pannier Market is the latest in a series of markets in the town going back over 900 years; its current site has been in operation for 150 years, and the market today is a vibrant, exciting mix of stalls selling a huge variety of products to thousands of visitors from all over the world.
We will also be showing at a number of other shows around the Devon and Cornwall area during the summer months, so keep an eye on our calendar for details.
We are a small family business working from our workshop on the western fringes of Dartmoor.
For many years we have been specialists in the production of staircases and stair components, and our business has gradually expanded to encompass the production of many varieties of turned components both for architectural joinery, high quality handmade pens and decorative or gift products.
We have completed many examples of work which has been exported all over the world, from Japan and Hawaii to many places in Europe as well as around our home county of Devon.
Recently we have been turning our attention more towards the specialist woodturning and copying of components, and we are able to re-create many of the traditional turnings which are no longer available. Not afraid of new work, we can equally well design and create custom pieces to order, either from drawings, or working from pictures - " We would like something like this only a bit different" is a refrain we often hear.
We are also proud of our "Have-A-Go-Days" - woodturning experience days with a difference. We aim to show people the fun side of woodturning and hope to spread the word widely - especially to the younger generation who don't always get the chance.
