Who is this for?

Aimed at anyone aged 12 and over who are interested in making pens or similar small-scale woodturning, we are proud to run these experience days for those with some, little or even no experience at all.

These are great sessions for those who don't want the more formal classroom style tuition that is available in many places; the main aim of the exercise is to have fun, and to enable you to take home a couple of pens that you can be proud of having made yourself.

If you are a beginner at woodturning, or else have been thinking of making pens but are uncertain about the outlay involved, this experience will give you all the information you need to be able to decide whether it's for you.

All materials and safety equipment are included.

Your day will start at 9.15 am in our rural workshop on the slopes of Dartmoor.

Following a safety briefing, we will start work on your two pens immediately - tea, coffee and soft drinks are provided for a mid-morning break, and by lunchtime you will have made your first pen!

We provide a full farmhouse lunch (none of this dry sandwich stuff here!) and after an hour or so to relax, we start on your second pen which will be more challenging than the first.

By the end of the day, at around 4.30, you will have completed both of your pens, and gained sufficient experience that you will be able to take it away yourself and give it a go at home if you wish.

Where? When? How much?

The have-a-go-days are run at our workshops in Lydford, near Tavsitock, on the western slopes of Dartmoor.

Our courses in 2012 each take a maximum of three people, so you can be sure that you will get all the attention and help you need during the day. We will be running the courses from the end of March through to October, and places are already being booked, so see our calendar for available dates.

If you don't see a suitable date, please email us to let us know when you would like to do the course and we will try to fit in with your requirements - we may well add extra dates as well, so keep an eye out for those.

The cost of the day is £95.00 per person - or why not book two places for a reduced price of £175.00.
