Why can't you take anybody under 12 years old?
Why do I have to book an adult place with each child?
| Why can't you take anybody under 12 years old? | We're afraid this comes down to the good old favourite "Health and Safety". Whilst we wish to encourage all youngsters to participate in a practical and fun hobby, and although there are many children aged under twelve who are perfectly responsible, we have to take safety as our first consideration, and the enjoyment of ALL of our participants as our next. As with all things we have to draw an arbitrary line somewhere and we have set ours to include as many people as we can. |
| Why do I have to book an adult place with each child? | We are providing a fun day for all of our participants. We are not qualified childminders, and we also believe that the youngster will get more out of the day if he or she has someone else close to them with whom they can share the experience. |
| Can you cater for people with disabilities? | Whilst we would like to think we can cater for everyone, there are clearly practical considerations to take into account. If a member of your party suffers from any form of disability which you think might affect their enjoyment of the day, please contact us in advance and we will do everything we can to find a way to allow everyone to enjoy their time with us. |
| Is there an upper age limit? | Absolutely not! Everyone should spend their time exploring new experiences - don't waste a single day! |
| Can I make something other than pens? | On our "standard" days it is far easier if all participants are doing the same thing, and the shared experience is half the fun. We are always open to suggestions and special requests, though, so if you have something in mind please feel free to ask. |
| Which pens will I make? | The pens you make during the day will depend on many factors including your own ability and what you would like to do. The first pen is designed to be easy to do; we can then adjust the second to suit. Remember that in any event you can choose to do as much or as little as you would like. If you would like to make a specific pen, then please contact us in advance to arrange this. |
| What happens if my pens are a disaster? | You might laugh at yourself, but we promise we won't! This is very rare and we keep an eye on your progress at all times which is why we only take three people at a time. If things don't quite go according to plan, however, we can still ensure that you have some high quality pens to go home with - and we promise we won't tell! |
How much are the pens worth? Is the day value for money? |
Two crucial questions in one! The pens you make would normally sell for around £40.00 and with a proper lunch thrown in as well, then the day provides excellent value for money for anyone, and you'll remember it for ever. |
| Can you do any other days or dates that aren't on your calendar? | Our calendar is the starting point, but if you have something specific in mind please contact us and we will try to oblige. We pride ourselves on being helpful and approachable... |
What should I wear? What should I bring? |
You will be in a workshop environment and you will be making lots of mess. Please don't wear high heels, expensive jewellery or your Armani suit - it just isn't that kind of day! You should wear anything which is comfortable; solid footwear and no loose sleeves are advisable - sandals are a no-no. Other than an open mind and a sense of fun, please don't feel you have to bring anything. If you have your own woodturning tools you would like to use, then that's great, but we provide everything that's needed. |
| Can I bring my dog? | Much though we love dogs ourselves, the workshop is on a working farm and as such it is not appropriate to bring dogs with you. If this is a problem, please contact us and we wil see what we can do to make alternative arrangements. |
| I've never tried anything like this before. Will I be OK? | We always enjoy a challenge! You really don't need to have done anything like this before as we will help you throughout the day. If you aren't comfortable doing any particular bit of the work, you just have to ask and we will either show you or do it for you. |
| Can other people come along who aren't doing the turning? | Guests are welcome to come along to enjoy the lunch (a charge will apply and advance booking necessary) but unfortnately our experience is that onlookers are too distracting for our participants so we can't have guests in the workshop. There is plenty to see and do around the area, and if you would simply like to come along to experience a day watching us work in our workshop without doing anything yourself, this can be arranged by contacting us with your requirements. |
| Can I book a day as a present for someone else? | By all means. Please let us know the details of the person attending on our booking form as well as your details; we can then prepare a gift certificate for you to present them with. |
